Halloween Candy Dish

I bought this very large glass container at my local thrift store, filled with lots of wine corks.  I removed the corks to be used in another project and thought this container would look adorable with a Halloween design to hold candy.  There are lots of Halloween designs out there, but I finally found this cute black cat who would look just right for my candy stash.

I downloaded the design into my Silhouette Cameo, sized the design for the glass container, and cut it out of vinyl.  Note I usually try to find designs that are easy to weed.  Designs that don’t have lots of little bitty pieces that can get lost when trying to etch.  This one was a little bit fussy, but I adjusted.

I placed the vinyl onto the washed and dried glass where it would look the best.  Blue tape went around the edges, just in case I got some etching cream outside of the vinyl design.

I made sure that the round glass would not roll from its laying down position by putting 1 Identipen on either side of the glass, then applied the Etchall etching cream and set my timer for 15 minutes.

After 15 minutes I used the black plastic squeegee to scrape off the etching cream and put it back in the jar. (YES, you can reuse this cream over and over, even if the color has turned from white to Chocolate!)

Because I was not going to paint this glass, I left the vinyl cutout on the surface, wiping it thoroughly with an unscented baby wipe.  Then I took out a tube of Ebony Rub ‘N Buff to color in my design.  Using a couple of Q-Tips cut in half (so I wouldn’t get black all over my hands), I rubbed and dotted the black wax onto the design.

I used a paper towel to gently remove some of the Rub ‘N Buff wax and then removed the vinyl cutout.  I had to make a couple of little corrections as the tiny lines of the kitty’s mouth and a few other areas disappeared.  An Xacto knife was easy to use both to remove the cutout and to scratch in the little lines that were missing.

This was a fun project and will hold lots of your Halloween candy in a pretty cute container.

Remember to always use Etchall etching cream in your projects. It was voted the BEST by crafters.

I hope you enjoy this project. Always remember to “Have A Colorful Day”
