When I work from your photos, the quality of the photos you send me is crucial to the accuracy and quality of the finished portrait. Give me 2 or more photos of your subject but also specify the one that is the favorite of yours. I will paint from that one and use the others for color reference.

Tips for Providing
Great Reference Photos

The quality of your reference photos plays an important role in creating the best possible artwork. When submitting images, consider the following recommendations:

Get as CLOSE as possible without blurring the image.
Focus on your subject’s FACE, head, shoulders.
Take the photos OUTDOORS in good natural light, NO Flash (a bright overcast day works best).
The best clothing is simple, not ornate.
Try to keep the background LIGHT or uncomplicated.
Take photos from SEVERAL ANGLES or different poses and try getting a natural shot, not a pose.
(For pets, the best view is a THREE QUARTER view.)
Photos must be a 4X6 and an 8X10 good quality color (Best: Email me a high grade digital photo and I will print out the sizes I need).

I can only work with what I can see, if you have a particular expression, smile, etc. that you want in the portrait be sure that it is in the photos. GOOD CLOSE-UP PHOTOS enable me to give you an ACCURATE PORTRAIT!

Portraits will be painted in Oil or Acrylic on Canvas (unframed). Please allow at least 4–6 weeks (Oils) 2-3 weeks (Acrylics) from the time I receive your photos until you receive your portrait. Oil paintings will be sprayed with a Retouch Varnish, as they have to dry for 6 months before they can be varnished. You will receive instructions for applying the varnish yourself, or you can send the portrait back to me for varnishing. The portraits on glass will be fired in a high fire kiln to set the special glass paints and melt the glass layers together.
