Dad’s Golf Beer Mug
I found a great beer mug that I wanted to etch for Father’s Day. I did a search online for golf SVG and found a great Golf logo that could be used with Etchall etching cream on Etsy. Here’s a link to the shop: MalonSamShop
I cleaned the glass real well and wiped down the etching area with alcohol and let it dry.
Then, I cut out the Golf logo on my Silhouette machine on vinyl and weeded the design. I applied the design to the glass and taped it so no etching cream would get where I didn’t want it.
I applied the Etchall etching cream to the front of the mug, putting it on about ¼” thick, like icing a cake. Now I set my timer for 8 minutes.
After 8 minutes, I moved the cream around to make sure it was applied correctly and there were no spots without the etching cream, then I set my timer for another 7 minutes.
With the plastic squeegee tool, I scraped off the etching cream and put it back into the jar. (Remember, you can reuse this
cream over and over?)
I wiped the glass off with a paper towel, rinsed the mug, removed the tape and vinyl, then thoroughly washed the mug to make sure I got all the etching cream off.
I liked the design, but it didn’t show up as well as I wanted it to. I didn’t want to paint this mug, so I got out a tube of Rub ‘n Buff, Silver Leaf. I used a Q-tip to apply the wax metallic finish to the design, then I rubbed the wax into the design with a paper towel and polished the mug. The wax did not stick to the glass, only to the etched design.
Voila! Just the way I pictured the golf design to look on the mug.
What a great Father’s Day gift for a Dad who loves to golf (and to drink beer, of course.)

I hope you enjoyed this project. Always remember to “Have a Colorful Day!”
