Easter Bunny Vase by Kathie Camara

I found this pretty purple vase at a local thrift store. It was very plain, so I decided to give it an Easter design using Etchall Cream and DecoArt Glass Paint. I also filled the vase with some origami butterflies that were made for me a few years ago by a neighbor.
I found a stencil design that I liked, the bunny with the egg, and cut it out on my Silhouette cutting machine and weeded the design. There were some very small pieces inside the egg that I did not need, so I removed them with an Exacto Blade. I would be painting my own designs on the egg.
After cleaning the vase thoroughly and letting it dry, I attached the stencil where I wanted it, making sure to center it on the vase. Because I’m not the neatest person on earth, I put blue painters tape around the stencil so that the etching cream would not get anywhere I didn’t want etched. I applied the Etchall etching cream and set my timer for 15 minutes.
After 15 minutes I used the black plastic squeegee and scraped off the etching cream and put it back in the jar. (YES, you can reuse this cream over and over, Even if the color has turned from white to Chocolate!) Then, I removed the outer stencil and wiped the glass off with an unscented baby wipe, polished it with a paper towel and washed any remaining Etchall cream off the surface.
The etching came out very nice. It took the glaze off of the vase and gave it some ‘tooth’ for DecoArt Glass Paint to adhere.
Before I started painting, I took my trusted White POSCA Paint Pen and outlined the bunny and the egg so I could see them better. The vase was set aside for the Paint Pen to dry for an hour or so.
When completely dry, I basecoated the design in White, then went over it again. I just dabbed the paint on to make it look like fur. Then added Pink to the ears, nose, eye, and some spots on the body to show shadows. The egg was designed with the Pink and some Teal paint. Very simple design, Just squiggles and dots.

I did add a puffy white tail that was not on the cutout design. All bunnies should have puffy white tails. The DecoArt Glass Paint worked well. I will set the vase aside now for a few weeks for the paint to cure as I do not have to cure it in an oven if it is not going to be washed often.
Remember to always use Etchall etching cream in your projects. It was voted the BEST by crafters.

You can click here to order from the Etchall site and I will get a small stipend that will help me to keep giving you these free tutorials. Thanks.
I hope you enjoy this project. Always remember to “Have A Colorful Day”
